ROMANDA DAVIS

Born and bred on the lively streets of Chicago’s west side, I’m a proud graduate of Rezin Orr High School. From a young age, I was captivated by music, listening to the legendary artists of the past like Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, and Aretha Franklin. As the 80s and 90s rolled around, I found solace in the smooth jazz tunes of WNUA 99.5 FM. Tom Joyner, Doc Kilgore, and other incredible personalities became my close friends through the airwaves.

My love for music extended beyond just listening – I yearned to play instruments. While I can only manage to produce a soft and melodic sound, it brings me joy to tinker with the piano, guitar, xylophone, or even a trumpet. In fact, my first trumpet rendition was the iconic “Feel So Good” by Chuck Mangione.

Fast forward to a fateful encounter at Illinois Media School in Lombard. When I visited the Chicago campus in spring 2018, my advisor, the fabulous Malika, asked me to read a script she had recorded. As she played it back, her enthusiasm was infectious. She told me, “You have the perfect voice for smooth jazz, like Sade. I absolutely adore your voice!” While I didn’t immediately enroll, that encounter stuck with me.

November 2018 rolled around, and I made the decision to join Illinois Media School in Lombard. In my very first radio class, our teacher Tlo divided us into groups. My team handed me a script to read, and initially, I approached it with my regular voice. But something clicked inside me, and I thought, why not try an acting voice? So, I channeled my inner seductress, and the feedback was overwhelming. From that moment on, I became known as the lady with the sexy voice. Many people affirmed what Malika saw in me – that I possess a captivating and beautiful radio voice. It was clear then that I had found my calling.

As an alumna of Illinois Media School, I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge and practical experience across various platforms. From The Edge On Air.com and WVON am1390 Chicago as a board operator, to WRRG 88.9fm Triton College Radio in River Grove as a specialty personality focused on smooth jazz, and even Klick Radio in Ghana, Africa with the esteemed Kwaku Skido. In addition to my accomplishments in the realm of media, I also hold an AAS Degree in Paralegal studies and a Bachelor of Professional Studies Degree in Law Office Administration.

In a world where music and voices hold immense power, I’m here to make waves, soothe souls, and leave a lasting impression. Buckle up, because this Chicago native is about to take you on an unforgettable sonic journey.
